On the evening of yesterday, the AFA Executive Committee approved the new competitive regime of Argentine football, giving clear setbacks on the draft which had been mentioned for weeks.

While on April 24 the amendment was close to the popular demands, yesterday the AFA was decided to alter the rules: There will be two championships, the Initial (Apertura) and Final (Clausura) and its winners will play a final to determine the champion.

As for relegation, promotion will be deleted and there will be 3 direct descents. All will be determined by the system of averages, not score.

As for tournaments, the Apertura and Clausura are now called Initial and Final. The winners will qualify for a final that will determine the champion on a neutral court and to one game The system is identical to that used for the season 90/91, when Boca and Newell’s went to the final and “La Lepra” won the title.
