Sola about YPF: “I voted for the privatization and now I’ll vote for the nationalization”
Argentina, April 29, 2012
Felipe Sola, national deputy for the province of Buenos Aires, said “I’ll vote for the expropriation of 51% of YPF shares” and said “I voted for the privatization, and have no regrets.”
Thus Sola argued “it was a mistake that could be seen with the newspaper on Monday” and noted that during the nineties the privatizations responded to deficits in public services. “I was not the only one who thought so, many who today voted to nationalize YPF before did not think so.”
“What was really serious was when the provinces lost shares. At that point Repsol took over the strategic decisions of oil, and would not be submitted to the Argentine opinion, but an investment group seeking to get the most possible,” said.
“The privatization failed miserably. The government allowed itto fail and now revisits its footsteps. This government does not say when it is wrong, but it is clear that privatization meant a mistake” concluded.
