ATILRA considers to take action against Smurfit-Kappa SA in solidarity with the fired workers

The Secretary General of the Association of Dairy Industry Workers of Argentina (ATILRA), Hector Ponce, announced that his organization will take action against the company that fired and suspended workers who were performing an assembly to discuss wages.

M24Digital learned in a communication with the dairy union that the workers of the Union of Paper and Paperboard of Santa Fe are in conflict with Smurfit-Kappa SA after the company decided to lay off workers that were voting a wage offer at a meeting.

Ponce told this newspaper that, by the virtue of the number of companies associated with that recycling enterprise and the Dairy Center, they are in position to take action to support workers affected.

The leader explained that “the ATILRA has decided to show solidarity with the colleagues in conflict as a matter of principle, against a corporate position which is clearly an intolerant persecution of the unionists and against the workers’ interests.”

“If this not resolved or if the situation in question gets aggravated, ATILRA could arrange for their workers to stop handling products of Smurfit Kappa SA and any of its related companies”, was said from the guild when contacted by this journal.
