Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth, Swedish Minister of Culture, is in the midst of a controversy after being photographed eating a cake that was part of an art installation, which represented the body of an African woman.

The installation repudiated FGM and was performed by the artist Makode Aj Linde, of African origin. Linde’s head was part of the installation and screaming every time someone cut a piece of cake.

“In our opinion, this simply adds to the fun of racism in Sweden,” said Kitimbwa Sabuni, spokesman for the National Afro-Swedish, adding: “This was a racist show.”

Moderna Museet, the gallery housing the facility, said the work was intended to raise the issue of genital mutilation.

The Afro-Swedish National Association has called for the resignation of the minister
