Haywood, governor of the Falklands, criticized again the Argentine government
Falklands, April 7, 2012
Nigel Haywood, Governor of the Falkland Islands, again questioned the actions carried out by the Argentine government, saying “they did many things that hurt the islanders.” He also said that if the voltage drops there could “emerge successful relationships.”
On the other hand, he criticized the trade bloc that the country has with the archipelago, saying “it caused shortages of fresh produce and higher prices,” adding “Argentina wants to take a territory that does not belong, against the wishes of their inhabitants.”
Haywood said “the Argentine government is doing many things that hurt the Islanders. So how are we going to persuade them that Argentina is a place that they should know better?”
Asked if Britain would support a hypothetical independence of the Islands, he said: “I do not see why we could not support the islanders if they decide to change status.”
