Cristina Kirchner led the act for the anniversary of the Falklands islands

Argentina, April 1, 2012

Today, Cristina Kirchner led the speech on the anniversary of 30 years of landing in the Falklands War. The event was held at the monument commemorating the battle and the fallen in combat in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego.

First of all, she said “this April 2, instituted as Veteran’s Day and the fallen in Malvinas, we come to offer recognition to the men who put their courage and have medals and decorations that were able to achieve with honor and valor in the battle field. But also fundamentally we come in memory of the thousands of young people who came to fight the territory in the islands and the hundreds who gave their lives.”

“I don’t know why history always takes young people in difficult times. So I give my appreciation to the youth who marched to the islands without preparation, without proper training. For those hundreds of young people who lost their lives, now they have not only our recognition but the eternal memory of the Argentine people” added the president.

In addition, she spoke against the British Prime Minister David Cameron, who yesterday argued that Argentina had tried to steal the freedom of the kelpers. Against this, the president said “British Prime Minister said that we were attacking the freedom of the islanders, but he does not mention that the Argentines had no freedom. Detainees had never reappeared; apparently they are not aware of that “and said “none of us can be accused of invading a country, to have violated the DD.HH. We are a nation that holds the plurality and freedom within the framework of dignity and democracy.”

“It’s a shame that colonial enclaves still exist, are 16, 10 of them of the UK. There must be justice to respect the territorial integrity, it is absurd to claim dominance over 14 000 km of the seas” ruled.

“War should not be celebrated, we must pay tribute to those who died the other side, because that makes them universal citizens, wars only bring pain, subvert the natural order that the sons bury their fathers. We have suffered internal and external wars. We have demanded that the international order is fulfilled, so that the powerful do not violate international security constantly just for being powers” remarked Cristina Kirchner.

Finally, she concluded “this story does not begin 30 years ago; this story is turning 180 years of usurpation. Memory and honor should be given to those who fought on the front.”
