United States: Awesome face transplant

A 37-year-old man received the most extensive face transplant so far which included face, teeth, tongue and jaw.

Richard Lee Norris had an accident with a gun in 1997 that destroyed his face. Until now he lived with a mask, held and filled with shame for his face after the incident.

Specialists of University of Maryland Medical Center announced that Richard is recovered successfully from the operation that lasted 72 hours, held last week.

He can already feel his face and he is brushing his teeth and shaving. He also regained his sense of smell, something he had lost after the accident.

 ”See him is a surreal experience. It’s hard not to wonder. Before, people used to look at him because he wore a mask and wanted to see the deformity,” said Eduardo Rodriguez, the chief surgeon. “We now have another reason to look at him and it’s really remarkable,” he added.
