Mauricio Macri: “Cristina Kirchner lied yesterday in the Congress”
City of Buenos Aires, March 2, 2012
Today, the head of Government of Buenos Aires Mauricio Macri gave a press conference to answer the President Cristina Kirchner, after the statements she made yesterday at the opening of legislative sessions of this year.
“The reason of the call is the long speech that the president gave yesterday, where she dedicated a chapter to the subway. Her claims include several falsehoods, which I will quote now” said Macri and started to name them one by one.
First, he noted that with respect to the management contract signed with the Government, the head of the Buenos Aires government “considering the Constitution of the City of Buenos Aires, he can not sign agreements without a legislative approval, for which the concession remains in the nation’s power and is the responsibility of that area”.
Moreover, he added as a second case, the current situation of the subway. “President, you must tell us how you will take care of the debts that left former President Nestor Kirchner and your own government. If you explain to us how you would take care of the debts of the past, we will take care of the future”.
He also spoke about the withdrawal of police from the subway, in which he argued “the City has 95 stations, calculating two platforms each. 250 police is a lie, the total of the Federal Police is of 1196 officers. The Metropolitan has 3000, of which 1900 are in the streets”.
“She said that she had invested more than 5 million pesos between the two governments of its political line. Yet much was spent on subsidies and the other part on security expenses, that’s not investment” said the head of Government of Buenos Aires and added “the works that the subway need exceed billions of pesos”.
Finally, he repeated what he said yesterday in the Legislature of Buenos Aires, stating that “we need a country with federalism. The City is part of Argentina and is made up of many people from all provinces. When you did not assure safety, you leave the Argentines who live or work here without security” and concluded “I will send the folder with this information so that she can read and review it”.
