The drought in the center of Argentina led to losses of more than 4 million dollars

Argentina, February 4, 2012

So far this year, the drought led to the loss of 30% of the corn crop and 20% of the soybean. In addition, professionals warned that if there are no rains in the remainder of February and March the situation could get worse.

For now, the drought is affecting the most productive areas of the country, which could cause economic losses of 8 billion dollars.

The agricultural businessman Gustavo Grobocopatel, who organized the calculation of potential losses so far, said that “the rains this week helped a lot, but either way the ceiling of production is lower than we estimate”.

He also indicated that the losses recorded to date amount to a total of 4,000 million for soybeans and more than 3,000 million for corn.
