Home-birth advocate dies giving birth at home

Caroline Lovell, an outspoken defender of home-births, died while giving birth at home.

Apparently, she suffered a cardiac arrest, perhaps by internal bleeding, but experts have not yet been pronounced.

Lovell had made all arrangements to give birth to her daughter, Zahra, who managed to survive, but the end result was not expected and on January 23 she died in childbirth.

The activist was mother of another three-year-old girl called Lulu, and now the father of two girls left alone to care for them.

Lovell was a strong advocate of home births, she held that women were entitled to give birth in their environment if they so wished.

In this sense, she pressured the Australian government for midwives were regulated, financed and have legal protection.

With her death, it was opened again the debate if it’s best for mother and baby, the home-birth.
