Nice pictures of a newborn flamingo with his mother

January 23, 2010

The flamingo baby was born in captivity at a zoo in Cali, Colombia, and was seen in the footsteps of her mother.

This baby is brought close to its family, which is common among the flamingos as they are very social birds and are kept in groups.

Despite its color now, beta-carotene in the diet, which comes mainly from algae and shrimp, will give the famous small feathers pink.

The beautiful birds, famous for their long necks and standing on one leg, are one of the more than 1,800 species of birds at the zoo in South America.

Flamingo rest position is in on one leg, thus replenishing the amount of body heat lost in the cool water.

The membrane between the toes helps them stay in the soft mud and swimming in deeper waters.
