Buenos Aires Mayor Mauricio Macri gave a press conference on the operation of the subway and the rate increase after the transfer from the Nation.

“As part of the agreement, the nation reduced subsidies and that forced us to have to transfer it to the tariff, because it is not foreseen on the national budget the subway operations,” Macri said.

“We wouldn’t like to have increase it, that everything would for free. But the reality is that the subway has to work and there are salaries to be paid and without genuine resources we can’t do it,” he added.

Macri assured: “I ask the workers to collaborate together to improve the service.”

“We will be the first to ensure that the dealership does a good job and we service the corresponding control. But things have a time no one can do overnight,” the mayor added.

“My request to the union leaders is working to make the service work better. Together we have an agenda in the coming years to improve the subway”.

Finally Macri said that at present his government is only working on the permanent transfer; therefore there wouldn’t be more increases in the short term.
