The Argentinean star got his third condecoration handed by FIFA to the best player in the World, in this case for 2011. This way, he matched Michel Platini’s record.

“La Pulga” got the 2011 Balon d’Or over the two other nominees, Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) and Xavi Alonso (Barcelona), for the third time.

This way, Lionel Messi entered the selected group of footballers who won the title 3 times and matched Michel Platini’s record by doing it in a row.

“The truth is that it is a pleasure to receive this award, it is the third one I win and it is an honor. I want to share it with the people who voted me and thank my teammates of Barcelona as from the Argentine team”, Messi said.
