Chile adds to the Argentine claim over the Falkland Islands
Argentina, December 11, 2011
Sebastián Piñera, president of Chile, who was present at the assumption of Cristina Kirchner, said that the bordering country adds to the Argentine claim for the sovereignty over the Falkland Islands.
Thus, he argued that his government “endorses and supports Argentina’s claim for the sovereignty over the Falklands Islands”.
“The Chilean government’s position is clear and firm: endorse and support the right of Argentina, for legal and historical reasons, over the Falkland Islands and the other surrounding islands” said Piñera.
He added “We will promote a dialogue between Argentina and Great Britain to allow a definitive solution to that situation”.
And finally he said that Latin America “is better prepared than ever to face the international economic crisis. Latin America has learned its lesson and now has a solid continent, growing and beginning a rebirth”.
