Chile: Earthquake of 5.6º Richter struck the mid area of the country

An earthquake of 5.6 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the south-central Chile affecting the vicinity of Santa Cruz. For now, there were no injuries nor damage reported.

As indicated by the National Emergency Office of Ministry of Interior (ONEMI), a tectonic shift occurred 45 kilometers away from the city.

The quake struck at 4:42 am in the Sixth Region in Chile, 45 kilometers deep. It was felt in regions like Biobío, Maule, O’Higgins, Valparaíso and Metropolitan.

So far, there were no casualties or damage reported, officials said, but a preventive alert is in effect.
