Santos said to be in favor of the legalization of certain drugs as a new strategy against drug trafficking

Juan Manuel Santos, Colombia’s president, said he would accept the legalization of some drugs in a framework of international coordination. He made called to the United States, Mexico and the European Union to “rethink the war on drugs.”
The Colombian president of the country gave an interview to British newspaper The Observer. He was open to debate the legalization of marijuana and cocaine: “I’d like to talk about legalization of marijuana and that cocaine”, saying in constract that morphine or heroin were “suicide drugs.”
“I do not want to be at the forefront of this movement, because it would becrucified.”
“However, we would be happy to participate in this discussion because Colombia is still the country that suffers and that historically has been mostdamaged by the high consumption” in the developed world, he said.
