Ten years from the famous “ball does not get stained” of Maradona

November 10, 2011

A day like today, but 10 years ago, the tribute to the greatest player of all time, Diego Armando Maradona, was held. In his farewell game, he recited his most memorable phrase.

It was November 10, 2001, and no economic or political situation would cease the encounter between Argentina & Maradona and the team of international stars.

In a packed Bombonera, after the 6-3 game in favor of Argentina, Maradona led his famous words to the audience, thrilling the stadium:

“Football is the most beautiful and healthiest sport in the world. That’s what you should not doubt it. Because one makes a mistake… football does not have to pay for it. I was wrong and I paid. But the ball … the ball does not get stained.”
