Historic: Quom community member is elected mayor in Chaco.

Ricardo Sandoval, candidate of the Frente para la Victoria  won the first municipal elections held in the town of Espinillo, Chaco. ”It’s the first time that the indigenous community will have a mayor of their own race and be a leader in this area,” said village head nowbelongs to the ethnic Qom.

Beyond the great victory of Capitanich in yesterday’s elections,  Chaco had a truly historic fact in the political history of the country, a municipality will be headed by a member of communities of indigenous peoples.

The town Espinillo was recently created by provincial law and voted yesterday for the first time authorities. The town has 2877 voters.

The elected mayor is remembered for the active controland participation in the historic hunger strike by the Indian community at Government House during the government of Roy Nikisch. At the same time said:”Thank God the great and young people came on the road, walk, whatever, but they are there to give their vote,” he said referring to bad weather on Sunday which complicated the accessibility of roads and income.
