Menem: “Justice was done”
September 17, 2011
Former president Carlos Saul Menem said that “justice was done” when he was acquitted in the case of arms smuggling to Ecuador and Croatia. He said he was the victim of a “long political persecution”, but has no ”thirst for revenge.”
The Riojan said that he will not file charges against former judge Jorge Urso, who had ordered his arrest in the case. ”I’m not a man to prosecute anyone. I only have love in my heart,” he said, justifying his decision.
Furthermore, Menem said he had been the victim of a “long political persecution”. ”Those who venture into the world of politics must be prepared for such situations. It’s what we risk when we are dedicated to always go with our help and our proposals to the people we govern,” he added.
