Colon, a football team form Santa Fe province, is in the midst of a controversy over a statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe, which even forced the leader Jose Luis De Santis to resign.

De Santis said the squad players demanded to remove the Virgin from the pit west of the court after losing against Union 2-0.

The leader strongly opposed to this idea because it seemed to him absolutely crazy to say that the virgin brings “bad luck”. Consequently it was decided at a meeting of leaders that the sculpture would not be removed. It was donated by former Uruguayan coach Jose Fossati.

However, soon after the team captain “El Chino” Garcé took away the statue with a crane, causing the reaction and resignation of some leaders, including De Santis.

The Church also spoke about it through the priest at the Basilica of Guadalupe, Osvaldo Gloverdans, who urged the club to place the virgin again in the match against San Lorenzo, or otherwise he will request formal explanations.

Finally, Colon president German Lerche said this afternoon that the sculpture was removed for restoration and then they will decide where to locate it.
