US Open: Del Potro, Nalbandian and Chela out, Monaco continues

United States, September 4, 2011

Juan Martin Del Potro was defeated in four sets by the French Simon, and lost the possibility of being into the sixteen best in the U.S. Open. Chela lost against Young and Nalbandian against Nadal. The only Argentine left is Monaco.

Del Potro suffered defeat in the third round and said goodbye to the tournament which had seen him champion in 2009. Less solid than on that occasion, was forced off the tournament against a strong performance of Simon.

Committing 72 unforced errors over the four hours of the match, Del Potro was unable to assert himself in the field.

The outcome of the meeting was a 6-4 to Del Potro in the first set, then fought a second set, which ended 7-5 in favor of French, a third set easy for Simon who won it 6-2 and a complicated final one but ended 7-6, leaving the Argentine out of the competition.

Moreover, Nalbandian fell 7-6, 6-1, 7-5 against the world number one Rafael Nadal. The match lasted two hours and was not a complicated match for the historic rival of Roger Federer.

Juan Ignacio Chela, meanwhile, lost 7-5, 6-4, 6-3 against the American Donald Young.
