Luetscher Leroy, 86, was trimming the plants in his garden on July 30, in the state of Arizona when he tripped and fell with such bad luck that one of the scissors handles entered below his right eye to his neck.

Luetscher managed to walk with much pain to the inside of his home and sought help from his wife.

The man was rushed to University Medical Center in Tucson, where he was assisted by surgeon Julie Wynne, oculoplastics specialist Lynn Polonski and vascular surgeon Kay Goshima.

Julie Wynne reported, “We could not believe our eyes. Half of scissors hung in his face, while the other handle was inside him, near to his external carotid artery.”

Polonski Lynn said, “Among the three of us decided that we were able to remove the scissors safely and rebuild the base metal of his orbit, to save his eye. We are very pleased that the man didn’t lose any of his vital structures.”
