President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner met with his Colombian counterpart in the Casa Rosada to relaunch bilateral relations between Colombia and Argentina.

“We are pleased that the president has accepted the invitation to come to Argentina and I thank affection and his presence here,” the president said.

“He is more than the president of Colombia, he is a friend, he is someone with whom we struck up a good personal and institutional relationship “, she added.

“I also want to thank the Republic of Colombia the support it has given to what is our national cause and that is our complaint with the United Kingdom in the context of what the United Nations has ordered on the sovereignty of our Malvinas Islands,” she said.

Meanwhile Santos assured that this friendship between Argentina and Colombia is long established.

He recalled former President Nestor Kirchner, because “it was a person who played a decisive role in restoring our relations with Venezuela and Ecuador. That was the beginning of an era that has been improving more and more on a regional relationship very positive, very constructive and very necessary,” Santos said.
