Passarella: “I may leave as a useless president, but I will never leave as a thief president”

City of Buenos Aires, June 29, 2011

The president of the River Plate club, Daniel Passarella, repeted that he will leave when his term comes to an end and defended Juan Jose Lopez. “Three months ago he was god because we were in the first place”, he remembered.

“Lopez… I think he had to go through this situation unfairly, but football is like that”, the ex defender of the National Team said. “Three months ago “el Negro” Lopez was god because we were in the first place”, he added.

The president of River denied that there was no consensus on the choice of the new manager. “No one opposed Matias Almeyda being coach, some guys did say, ‘I think we should put someone with experience besides him’, and I agree”, he sid.

Passarella stated: “I may leave River tomorrow, when my term comes to an end, as a useless president, as the press say; as an arrogant president, as the press say; as an authoritarian president, as the press says; but I will never leave as a thief president”.
