Menotti: “If River plays badly, Belgrano will achieve the victory”

Argentina, June 25, 2011

Cesar Luis Menotti, a former player and coach of the Argentina World Cup champion in 1978, said that if River does not play well “is not going to beat Belgrano de Córdoba” and warned that the team from Cordoba “has few weaknesses” and may keep the advantage of the first match, where they won 2-0.

“River must have intelligence and capacity. What River has done during this time was useless” argued the coach.

Menotti, who was coach of different clubs like Boca, Rosario Central, Independiente and even River, also recognized that the team form Cordoba “has emotional advantage” to assume the second match.

“Belgrano is rising since the second round of the National B. But beware that Belgrano in Cordoba is like River in Buenos Aires. If something goes wrong you cannot go for a coffee to have a cup of tea” said the “Flaco” to a radio program.

“(Passarella) took the leadership of the institution a years and half ago and received a where there could not be bought shirts. Fans should give him a lot of love because he does not deserve this” he said of the current president of the institution.

Thus, Menotti made a comparison with what actually happens to Rosario Central, team that will remain for the second consecutive season in the B Nacional.

“The leaders destroyed the institution (of Rosario Central) and sent them to play in the National B. Today the club remains there. Politicians quickly blame (Julio) Grondona, but nobody proposes a project” concluded.
