Cristina, “We have a great homeland, we must be proud of it”

CHACO, May 26, 2011

The president of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, appeared on national TV yesterday as part of the commemoration of the May Revolution, from the city of Resistencia.

The president began her speech by thanking the governor Jorge Capitanich and people of Chaco due to the huge displays of affection, as well as the words of the bishop of the province, in the Te Deum which was attended hours before.

Cristina recalled former President Nestor Kirchner, eight years after taking the power in the Casa Rosada. ”Today is not an easy day for me, exactly eight years ago, sitting on my bench, being watched by Senator taking power as president of all Argentines, there was my life partner”.

“Many legislators listened to his message. And that man came from the south to commit their lives to bring the convictions of thousands and thousands, that 30 years in the same plaza he had been convened to change history” she added.

“I did not hear him as wife; I heard him as a companion of militancy and felt that our beloved Argentina was going to travel a different path, a path of achievement, a path where Argentines regained pride”.

“I knew it would be a difficult road but I never imagined how much. But I’m sure from where you are, that he is proud to have lived the life he had. He was fortunate to have made the dreams of youth”.

He recalled the experienced last year on this date: “I felt with him, exactly one year, in another May 25, millions of Argentines poured into the streets, cheering and celebrating together the presidents of South America, our house we had chosen as our membership and our identity, through the streets of our Buenos Aires, which belongs to all Argentines”.

“I felt we had managed to unite a country that had been divided since the mercy of these divisions had failed” she added.

The president then added: “I ask God to give me and all Argentines strength, courage and humility that we all must take to build a different country, a different society”.

“We are proud Argentine homeland of that country and the history that it has” she concluded.
