Alert in Japan: Fukushima nuclear plant reaches ‘levels of Chernobyl’

April 12, 2011: The Japanese authorities said, according to Kyodo news agency, “lifted from five to seven the possibility of a nuclear accident at the plant in Fukushima-1, which is comparable to that of Ukraine’s Chernobyl Plant occurred in 1986. “
Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), responsible for the Japanese plant, warned that “the radiation emanating from their facilities could overcome the one detected in Chernobyl, although it has not yet happened.”
The Nuclear Security Agency of Japan stated that “radiation in Fukushima plant was one-tenth of that released in Chernobyl. “
