Garre meant past police leaders
City of Buenos Aires, April 9, 2011
Yesterday, statements of Security Minister Nilda Garre, who denounced corruption within the Federal Police, transcended. Today it was confirmed that the official was referring to the previous management of the force.
Garre attended a militant meeting of the group “La Campora” and neighbors of the Comuna 3 (Balvanera and San Cristóbal), where she criticized the former heads of the Federal.
“Until recently there was a commanding table that had been frozen, used to fund itself,” said the minister.
“‘This station collects a lot’, meaning that it works well with the direct squeeze retailers, it extorts either immigrants without papers in order, requiring them to share the street vendors to leave them alone, maybe fix the kitchen drug to turn a blind eye, let it run a brothel out of control,” she added.
Garre ended by saying that “the police is not part of the solution but part of the problem” because “it is the institution that requires to correct most things, because it maintains an organization of domestic sectors that do not discuss security doctrines or ideological positions. They argue, unfortunately, about the ownership of certain areas or on ‘business’.”
