Heat Wave: Orange Alert in Capital and the Greater Buenos Aires

City of Buenos Aires, March 10, 2011

The National Weather Service (NWS) today established the orange alert due to the heat wave in Buenos Aires (city and suburbs) that affects it since Monday.

High temperatures, said the agency, “can be dangerous for babies, toddlers and people older than 65 years, or those with chronic diseases.”

Since Monday, the City and Greater Buenos Aires are hosts to a temperature above32 degrees and a wind chill that reached 35 degrees (Celsius).

“The intense heat can cause health problems if not taken proper precautions,” the NWS said, adding that “the elderly, pregnant women and infants are the groups that may potentially be most affected” by the heat.
