New York, March 4, 2011
Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman announced today that Argentina “evacuated its embassy in Libya.” The diplomatic corps went to Malta.
Timerman said that at the request of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Argentine White Helmets will give their assistance for the great exodus which exist in Libya.
“UNHCR asked to work in the Libyan refugee issue, so White Helmets will start working now. We will send a team to the border with Tunisia,” the chancellor said when leaving a meeting of the Group of 77 and China, chaired by Argentina.
Timerman said that, due to the conflict in Libya, the Summit of Heads of State of the South in June would change of venue to another African nation not yet defined.
