3 companies fined because of the power cuts in December

City of Buenos Aires, February 9, 2011

The Government of Argentina fined Edesur, Edenor and Edelap in a total of about 89 million pesos (22 million dollars), equivalent to the amount of compensation to users for damages that the December outage caused.

“Once the sanctioning procedure was done”, the regulator applied the fines, said the Federal Planning Minister Julio de Vido, at a press conference.

Power outages occurred between December 20 and 31 of that month (always 2010) affected 120,000 customers of the 5 million users in total, the ministry of Planning.

The minister commented on the effectiveness of these payments and cautioned that “if there are repeated cuts of this magnitude, it is not excluded to remove the concession of the firm responsible.”
