Government reserves its position on Egypt crisis
Argentina, February 1, 2011.- Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman said that our country can not be so arrogant to believe it can resolve the crisis in the Middle East, so the government takes no position for or against Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak.
The official said that Argentina “is not making value judgments.” Although the management of Cristina Fernandez “respects human rights and democracy in all countries”, that should not be translated as a criticism of Mubarak, nor as an endorsement of the Egyptian president opposition.
Timerman recalled that Israel said late on its support for the Mubarak government, despite growing protests against him that calls for his resignation.
Thus, the Argentine Government, through its Foreign Minister, has decided not to let an official statement on the crisis in Egypt.
