Del Potro began with the right foot in Australia

Melbourne, January 18, 2011.- Argentine tennis player Juan Martin Del Potro won in his debut at the Australia Open against Israeli Dudi Sela 7-6 (13), 6-4, 6-4.

“Delpo” achieved the second round of the first Grand Slam of the year with a victory that revived hopes about his return.

It was not an easy match for the Argentine player, as in the first set, he could be imposed only in the tiebreaker with a tight result (13-11). But then he took control of the game with more forcefulness and gave no chances to his opponent.

Del Potro said after the match he still needs a bit of pace, but he added that is a matter of time. “Mistakes are a result of inactivity. But when I have doubts I decided to risk. Like today.” He also said: “Any rival is now difficult for me. I’m seeking to go slowly. Not big things. No matter whom I have to play.”

In their next game, he will face Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis, who beat Slovakia Zemija Grega in five sets.

“Now I have the chance to play more games, more minutes. It always helps to win. I do not want to lose.” Del Potro said.

On the other hand, Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela was beaten by Frenchman Llodra 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in his debut at the Australia Open.
