China will continue to buy soybean oil to Argentina

Argentina, January 11, 2011

Debora Giorgi, Minister of Industry, met with the Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming, and discussed trade issues. She said “China will continue to buy soybean oil to Argentina”. She also assured that will hold another meeting next March to optimize business relationships.

The minister is in Beijing, and denied some versions published by the media that remarked the “suspension” of Argentine acquisitions by the Asian giant.

The meeting agreed for next March will have as objective to “work in sectors that suffer trade tensions such as the Chinese industries that are interested in Argentine products”.

“Argentina will maintain the defense of the domestic market from unfair competition of products that come from China” and that “private agreements will be promoted to alleviate trade tensions” said Giorgi.

“China will continue to buy soybean oil in our country, as the Minister Chen Deming confirmed it” Giorgi said after the meeting that lasted over two hours and was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Commerce in the Chinese capital.

Moreover, Deming said that “the country is ready to boost imports from Argentina and that continue to encourage Chinese companies to invest in Latin America, specifically in our country”.

In the meeting held in October 2010, Bianchi, Secretary of Industry of Argentina, showed to the Chinese minister the areas in which Argentina is seeking to diversify their exports, such as farm machinery, medical equipment, biotechnology in agricultural production and pharmaceuticals.
