Incidents in an eviction in Villa Soldati
Buenos Aires, December 7, 2010.- An eviction was carried out by police in the neighborhood of Villa Soldati on a sector belonging to the Indo-American Park, with incidents provoked by a group of people who threw stones and burned some cars.
Those who resisted the eviction were behind the stage of Deportivo Spanish club near Ricchieri Highway. Police responded with rubber bullets and a hydrant truck. There were some arrests and several injuries.
Buenos Aires City Public Space Minister Diego Santilli said in the afternoon that “we discussed until the last minute and when we could not do it, protesters attacked the police from a barricade and then the hydrant truck had no major problems”.
And he added: “The neighbors of Soldati asked to recover the park;” while he stressed that “we were beginning to keep well until this happened we saw here (a squatter settlement). It is not applicable.”
