YPF looking for oil in the province of San Juan

Fiscal Oilfields (YPF for its acronym in Spanish) began drilling in the area of the Cordillera belonging to the province of San Juan. It aims to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the area.
The team, composed entirely of specialists from YPF, began drilling operations in the pit called SJ An is-1 (Ansilta), in the vicinity of Barreal.
The area is 200 kilometers away from the capital of the province, in an Intermountain pocket bounded by the Precordillera at the west and the Front Cordillera to the east.
The operation is part of the “Exploratory Development Program 2010/2014″, announced by the CEO of YPF, Sebastián Eskenazi, in 2009.
The aim of the study is to determine wether the cores of the region known as Tamberías to know the potential oil and gas reserves, their quality and the maturity of the bedrock.
