Bolivia, November 22, 2010

The U.S. Embassy in La Paz “regretted the accusations made by the Bolivian President Evo Morales which stated that Washington is promoting four coups in Latin America because of the presence of the U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, as part of the IX Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas held in Santa Cruz. ”

EFE news agency reported a statement issued by the U.S. embassy: “We regret the opportunity that the Government of Bolivia has lost to progress on key issues in the conference.” “Washington keeps its spirit of commitment to work with Bolivia and other countries in the hemisphere.”

On Monday, Evo Morales accused the U.S. of having “supported anti-democratic movements in Venezuela (2002), Bolivia (2008), Honduras (2009) and Ecuador (2010).

According to the Bolivian President “The American empire won in Honduras, but we won in Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador. We are winning 3-1 against the United States.”
