Nilda Garré: “Argentina expects to recover the Falkland Islands”

Nilda Garre, Minister of Defence, claimed for Argentina’s sovereignty over the Falkland Islands and criticized the military, oil and gas activities in the islands done by the British government, during a meeting with Lindiwe Sisilu, her counterpart of South Africa.

She declared that “Argentina is suffering today in the South Atlantic the usurpation of the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and South Sandwich and their surrounding waters at the hands of the United Kingdom. This has been further aggravated by the British unilateral actions, both in terms of fishing licenses and oil exploration. “

Garre said that “Argentina expects to recover these island territories under international law, as required by the National Constitution.”

The remarks were made in the framework of the visit of Lindiwe Sisilu, South African Minister of Defence, with whom she signed agreements of cooperation between both countries.

The agreement includes cooperation in military technology and defense production.

The South African Minister is a militant of the struggle against apartheid, and she was arrested and tortured during those years.
