Velez tied Estudiantes in the top of the standings with today’s victory

Velez defeated Lanus 1-0 in Liniers, with a goal scored by Ricardo Álvarez, and this result allowed them to be along with Estudiantes at the top of the standings, who lost against Tiger 2-1.

Caranta had work in the late afternoon in Liniers. A 13 minutes plugged a shot of Martinez, at 42 blocked a header from Silva and at 45 stopped a kick done by the “burrito”.

Already in the second half, the home team had better circulation of the ball, pushed out Lanus and had more precision, but Caranta was in a good night and blocked most of the shots.

In the second half the Goalkeeper blocked at 6 minutes a shot from outside by Moralez and rejected at 9 ‘a left-footer from inside the area by Emiliano Papa.

At 14 minutes, Alvarez hooked with his left toward the middle and slipped a shot, although Caranta came to touch the ball, could not block it and scored the only goal of the match.

With the victory, Vélez reaches 30 points, equaling Estudiantes in the top of the stadings of the Apertura Tournament, when there are only five rounds left of the tournament.

Lanús remains with 18 points, but now stays with a chance to enter the Libertadores 2011.
