California: “Happy meals” were prohibited

United States, November 10, 2010: According to local media, “San Francisco, California, prohibits fast food children’s meals which include toys and nutrients that do not meet alimentation requirements.”

According to the organizations that support the measure, “the fast food chains are one of the causes of childhood obesity in the United States, affecting about 20% of the children.”

It also confirmed that “baby foods that these establishments prepare have many calories.”

Health authorities in the city are looking for “children to receive a toy when they get a healthy snack.”

The McDonalds restaurant chain called this a wrong measure, indicating in a statement that “parents tell us it is their right and responsibility, not of the government, to make their own decisions and choose what is good for their children”.
