Buenos Aires, October 28, 2010.- The presidents Sebastian Pinera (Chile), Evo Morales (Bolivia), Rafael Correa (Ecuador) and Jose Mujica (Uruguay) attended the Casa Rosada with Cristina Fernandez, to bid farewell to former president Néstor Kirchner.
The first to give an emotional hug to Cristina was Evo Morales, who was also the first president to arrive in the country. He recalled Nestor Kirchner as “a man who fought for the sovereignty of Argentina and Latin America.”
José Mujica, arriving at Government House, also said a few words to the press, “Uruguayan society is in solidarity with Argentina.” “Beyond any shade and any opinion, if it is true that the river separates us, it is also true that the river unites us,” Mujica said.
Rafael Correa added that Néstor Kirchner “has been a great patriot, a huge Latin American and a dear friend.”
Sebastián Piñera said upon arrival at Jorge Newbery Airport: “We have come to express to President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner our deepest condolences for the loss of a man as Nestor Kirchner, who took over his life’s major responsibilities”.
For his part Brazil President Lula Da Silva changed his flight plan and it is expected his arrival in Buenos Aires around 7 pm, as Nestor Kirchner will be cremated in the early hours of Friday.
