Argentina was supported by the OAS on the Malvinas/Falklands subject

October 25, 2010

The secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS) Jose Miguel Insulza manifested the agency’s support to Argentina’s claims against the British military activities in the Malvinas/Falkland Islands.

“I hope the decision to perform these maneuvers will be reconsidered and the exercises are not made” said Insulza when communicating the support for Argentine demands.

The OAS Secretary General recalled that at the last General Assembly of that body, held in Lima, adopted a statement stressing the “need” for the Argentine and the British governments to “quickly reassume” the negotiations on sovereignty.

Insulza stressed that the military exercises announced by the UK government “contradicts the spirit of that resolution”.
