The President ordered to summon the British Ambassador for tomorrow

Argentina, October 9, 2010

Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner gave the order to summon the British ambassador in Argentina, Shan Morgan, for a meeting to be held tomorrow where they will provide explanations for the sudden decision to conduct military exercises in a disputed area such as the Falkland/Malvinas Islands.

Through her Twitter, the President considered that the announcement of the UK government is of an “unprecedented gravity” and added that “they inform military exercise with the use of weapons (missiles) in the disputed territory according to United Nations Resolution.”

The chief of government said she found it “serious, very serious” that the British military order “the militarization of the South Atlantic and the illicit and unmasked use of its permanent seat on the UN Security Council.”

Cristina called the English power as “typical nineteenth century colonialism. With an anachronistic use of force in violation of international law. They do not care. A clear example of double standards.”

“We shall communicate this in unison to the UN Secretary General, OAS, UNASUR, and member states of these organizations,” said the President and concluded “Synthesis … pirates for ever?”.

I know the Argentine mindset quite well. First of all, Argentina will never take the blame for its own shortcomings; for example, in the 1970/80s they assumed quite a large amount in foreign debt which they subsequently were unable to pay – who did they blame? The international banks which, they said, had forced the loans on them!
At the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century Argentine was the 5th or 6th most prosperous nation in the world – by the end of the 20th century Argentina had become a third world country, this category still applies! Who do they blame? – the US, Europe, indeed, everyone under the sun, except themselves.
Their politics are a mess and their politicians are totally corrupt as is their judicial system and yet they believe themselves to be the most culturally superior nation in Latin America. (They are mistaken – Costa Rica is, by far, the most cultured national on the Continent with a very much higher incidence of literacy! Even Chile is more advanced than Argentina.) Whilst, of course, they have some merits – their footballers are quite good and their steaks are very succulent but that’s about it! Oh and of course they invented the tango – which they dance very well.
One statistic I find very interesting is that not long ago there were some WHO facts which claimed that Argentina, Buenos Aires to be exact, had the highest ratio of psychiatrists per head of the population in the WORLD! Curious, don’t you think?
The Falkland/Malvinas Islands are British territory, always have been and always will be? SUPPORT THE ISLANDERS!

I have some doubts as to the veracity of this story, as it is suggested that the Royal Navy informed Argentina of the military exercises via the surveyors department of the Argentine Navy. A strange way of sending information?

However, if it is true, then Argentina has no business complaining. The Falkland Islands have never belonged to Argentina and Argentina’s spurious version of history does not bear serious scrutiny. Which is why, of course, that Argentina has never suggested taking the case to the ICJ.

The Falkland Islands belong to the islanders. What they wish to be is up to them … no-one else!
