Ecuador: “Neither forget nor forgive”, and so it will be
Ecuador, October 4, 2010
The Ecuadorian government said today that there will be no amnesty for the intellectual and material authors of the coup attempt against Rafael Correa, president of that country. They are accumulating data on the “conspiracy”.
Gustavo Jalkh, Minister of Interior, said that “there must be justice, not revenge, reconciliation, not resentment. It’s hard for a group of insane that has affected the image of the police so much with this attack against democracy, against the president’s life.”
“They are doing relevant research and there already is plenty of information related to how this whole conspiracy was articulating ” Jalkh said, adding that the state of emergency is in effect until Thursday and that today the Public Utilities Act could be entered.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Policy, Doris Soliz said that “hasty pronouncements of certain groups to try to unite opposition forces, even no more than echoes, reveal the petty nature of the opposition. The silence of other sectors is an eloquent sign of complicity.”
In research on the “conspiracy”, it is tried to show if the leader of the Patriotic Society Party (opposition) was behind the coup attempt, or at least knew of its actions.
