Estudiantes won the derby and tops the Argentine Apertura

Estudiantes defeated Gimnasia in La Plata derby and is the only leader in Argentine Apertura. It was 2-0 in Quilmes Stadium.

Federico Fernandez scored the opener with a header at minute 36 of the first half. Juan Sebastian Verón scored the second with a penalty at the end of the initial partial.

Already in the second half, Estudiantes had absolute dominion in the game. Gimnasia was helpless and had no ideas to reach the goal defended by Orion.

La Plata teams have very different situations. On one hand, Estudiantes is on the top of the tournament and candidate to be champion. Gimnasia, on the other hand, is in the last position, his coach Diego Cocca could be dismissed and only scored in one of the eight matches of the Apertura.
