London, September 14, 2010

Ecuadorian Luis Antonio Valencia suffered a serious injury today in the match that his team, Manchester United, tied 0-0 against Glasgow Rangers, for the first round of the Champions League.

Valencia fractured his left ankle and will be sidelined “for a long time,” according to Sir Alex Ferguson, his coach.

The tragic play happened at minute 18th of the second half when he was committed by defender Kirk Broadfoot. Valencia, with visible gestures of pain, was replaced by Giggs. Broadfoot also took his head showing desperation.

“He’s gone straight to hospital and he will be operated on in the morning,” said the Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. “It’s a dislocation and a fracture and he’s going to be out for a long time. It’s a really bad blow for the boy.”
