The UBA positioned itself in favor of decriminalizing abortion

The Superior Council of the University of Buenos Aires, highest decision making body of the university, issued a resolution that is in favor of decriminalizing abortion. The measure was passed unanimously.

The draft declaration was presented by student advisers after the issue be discussed at the conference of the Federación Universitaria de Buenos Aires from hundreds of university students.

Leandro Altman, top student advisor said “As had happened in the case of marriage between same sex, from La Mella believe it is essential that the public university is involved in the discussions that occur in society, and this seems another way to do it “

“Almost certainly would say that none of that here vote for this resolution is in favor of abortion. It would be better not to have abortion, because it means an injury that must be addressed for a long time, “said Federico Schuster, faculty advisor.

Indeed, the resolution does not include abortion as a contraceptive option viable, but as a reality that must be attacked to avoid thousands of deaths generated by the conditions of secrecy and lack of security when women abort.

“Today we took a step in installing the public agenda in this debate, a crucial step to resist and offensive move against the more conservative sectors of the country (and even UBA) and derive once for all sex education to choose Non-abortion contraception and legal abortion to avoid death” said Ignacio Kozter, counselor of students.
