Catholic community allows students to exit school to march against gay marriage


As a measure to encourage participation in the rally against gay marriage, Catholic schools and universities held talks with their students. In addition, the Faculty of Law, Catholic University of La Plata and Universidad Austral will not count assistance tomorrow to enable students to attend this march.

The mobilization will take place tomorrow and converge in the National Congress at 18:30. It is convened by the Department of Laity of the Episcopal Conference Argentina (Deplai), Christian Alliance of Evangelical Churches (acier), the Federation of Evangelical Pentecostal Fellowship (Fecep) plus the Jewish and Muslim faiths which are also opposed to equal rights of citizens because of their sexual orientation.

Hector Garabal, director of Press and Institutional Communication of the Faculty of Law of the UCLP stated that the absence does not count “is a decision of the dean (of the institution Plata), Hernan Mathieu. At the request of students, decided to not compute the absence of those who would like to participate in the mobilization tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, the University Austral accompanies the measure by declaring the day off from 17:30 in the morning because, as stated in the statement of the institution, “the position taken by the Universidad Austral in front of the draft of civil code in of marriage”.
