Obama congratulated Argentina for its Human Rights policy and its stance on Iran

Barack Obama thanked in a letter to Argentina’s position the Human Rights Council UN regarding Iran. At the same time he also highlighted the “leadership role” on the subject of Human Rights by Argentina.

“Dear Cristina:

I am writing to thank your support to the joint statement on Iran completed in the Human Rights Council on June 15, 2010.

The United States and Argentina share a strong commitment to the promotion of basic human rights in the region and worldwide. This commitment stems from the conviction that democratic freedoms, peace, and stability can not be fully achieved as there are governments that ignore international standards and continue to oppress its people, denying them the opportunity to exercise their fundamental rights.

Your support of the Declaration on Iran is a clear example of how Argentina plays a leadership role by calling international attention on those governments who persist to ignore brutally rights of its citizens, in order to stay in power.

The United States is proud to have Argentina as a strong ally in the defense of human rights, regardless of where they are threatened. I have the greatest expectation to continue working with you on that common goal.

Sincerely,
Barack Obama”
