WHO maintains status of pandemic for Swine Flu

The World Health Organization (WHO) decided to maintain the pandemic status of Swine Flu, a year after it was declared. The disease caused panic in the world and special sanitary measures were taken to prevent its spread.

Margaret Chan, WHO general director, announced that the emergency committee will meet again in mid-July for a reassessment of the situation.

The Committee notes that although “the pandemic continues, the most intense period of activity seems to have passed in most places in the world.”

Anyway, they stated that “the countries should remain vigilant about the pandemic.”

Chan’s decision has bases on scientists recommendations. The July meeting will provide an analysis of “information about the winter season of Swine Flu in the southern hemisphere.”
